By: Shreeya Indap Deforestation article
Deforestation is the permanent destruction of forests in order to make the land available for other uses. Earth is losing its forests quickly, damaging soil, the environment, and millions of plant and animal life (70% of all living things live in forests) In fact, in 100 years, rain forests might not exist! Climate change also worsens because of deforestation. Trees absorb greenhouse gases before they make us too hot! Why are forests cut down? Some reasons are: - Money or providing for families. Farmers cut and burn acres of forests so that they can grow their crops and livestock. -Loggers cut MANY trees for wood/paper goods, roads to find MORE wood, and space for homes and other buildings. -An unintentional factor of deforestation are wildfires. These damage soil by making the land dry with no water in it because of the massive loss of trees. What are some easy things you can do? Don't get a physical newspaper. Buy eBooks!
