Our Story
Dandilyonn is a registered 501c3 nonprofit with a mission to educate youth about climate change, promote green habits, and raise money for community projects beneficial to the environment.
In 2015, Shreeya Indap stumbled upon a book called "Be a Changemaker: How to Start Something That Matters" by Laurie Ann Thompson. After reading it, she was inspired to start something of her own, but for what cause? At the time, California was in the midst of our worst ever drought, and entire communities directly witnessed climate change. Brown was the new green for our hills, and we watched in devastation as our city's remaining fragments of natural beauty was destroyed for the construction of houses. Shreeya knew that climate change was the issue she had to tackle, immediately partnered up with Ojaswee Chaudhary who shared a passion to save the environment to begin working towards the cause.
Ojaswee recalled when the nature area in her elementary school was being torn apart to make room for more buildings. She loved making daisy crowns and marveling at the sap in the tall trees, but this was all being taken away. As a third grader, she didn't know what she could do about it but heard that the sixth graders had started a petition and she signed it right away. In the end, this petition didn't stop the construction of the new buildings, but it delayed this process and depicted to Ojaswee anyone could take action. When she partnered up with Shreeya, she was ready to pave the path for young people like herself to protect our environment.
For the initial kick off of the organization, we proudly launched our t-shirt line. Soon, we were avidly writing articles, hosting art parties, registering to become an official 501c3 nonprofit, and even achieving our dream of hosting a dance show fundraiser. Check out our various projects by clicking on the projects tab! The journey thus far has been incredible and we hope for even more growth and impact in our future.
